NameLottia aff. stanfordiana - RARE UNUSUAL COLOR FORM!
Size20.1 mm
LocalityEl Laboratorio, Jalisco, Mexico
NoteLOTTIIDAE - Lottia aff. stanfordiana (Berry, 1957). UNIQUE RARE UNUSUAL BROWN COLOR FORM AND GRANULATE!! This specimen shows a different variety for the "stanfordiana" with ventral brown-white color form combined with dense granulate structure around, really unique. The dorsal side is also brown with striped pattern around the lip sides and the dorsum displays abundant erosion as usual for this rough species, living on rocks directly in the sunlight. Intact lip, ventral side and erosion on top, F+++-F++. Apparently feeding on the marine soup that comes and goes with the currents, waves and seaweeds in stones, this species lives where the waves break in the intertidal zone around the coastline. Really hard to remove from stones without braking them. Found attached to the rocks with green and brown algae at extremely low tide between strong big waves. El Laboratorio, 3km north from Cuastecomates, Jalisco, Mexico. August 2026. Estimated value between 16-20 euro. Good luck and Happy shelling!!! MEXICO PACIFIC
