| Item | # 0004308518 |
| Family | Cypraeidae |
| Name | Zoila ketyana bataviensis f. intermediata - RARELY OFFERED , MISSING FROM MOST COLLECTIONS |
| Size | 50.0 mm |
| Locality | Jurian Bay, Western Australia |
| Note | RARELY OFFERED......Conchologically linking ketyana with marginata. Very rare and missing from the majority of collections. Typical lightly gold-flecked dorsum apex, akin to birds' egg speckling. Along with a characteristic elegant shape with widest point notably at mid-dorsum. And distinctive pinched ends. Subtle malleation over the dorsum, an attribute admired by all collectors, as well as indicative of great maturity. Subtle burnt-gold basal and marginal maculae. Base famously convex, dramatic in this example, adding to the appeal. Glossy. Super heavy for size, a further differentiation from marginata. Tiny blemish not worth mentioning and unseen by naked eye. Markedly different from most ketyana and absent from most collections. Grade: Gem- for the fussy collector. Provenance: from my own collection. Live taken from a craypot in 50m waters; off Jurian Bay, Western Australia; April 1994. |
