| Note | A FAMOUS SPECIES, ONE OF THE FIFTY RARE SHELLS OF PETER DANCE. This is a famous species, the early history has been documented by P. Dance in his Rare shells (1969). At the time of Dance there was virtually no material around. The species remained rare until Somalian fishing boats went docking regularly in Italy, the cabins of their captains stocked with crates of deep water material fished in Somalia offshore. And dozens of festiva, the slender forms and the broad forms. This is by now all 50 years ago and basically it is now waiting until some of these shells re-appear on the surface, which is often the case in shell shows. This is the broad form in better than average quality: fine+, small pin hole hard to see near the suture on a the aperture view. Well patterned and with the classic red top whorls.
