| Note | SPECIAL SALE – MASTERPIECES OF THE JES COLLECTION: One of the FINEST known specimens of this exceedingly RARE, mythical species. Almost unheard of LIVE-COLLECTED quality – virtual PERFECTION, with ultra-delicate pin-point protoconch INTACT. (The majority of known specimens are dead-collected, many with substantial damage and erosion.) The specimen was obtained via the legendary TAIWANESE TRAWLING operations undertaken off the northern coast of Australia in the 1970s, and the few known specimens thus collected, of this incredible level of quality, have become much coveted ‘collector’s items’, commanding a substantial premium. Beautiful subtle colour: pale orange-ochre, decorated with three broad spiral bands of pure white triangular markings. Hypermature, with greatly thickened shell walls and apertural lip, and consequent weight. An exceedingly rare opportunity for a highly advanced Volutidae specialist to acquire one of the finest known specimens of this almost impossible to obtain species. Data: Off northern coast of Western Australia, Australia; upon sand substrate; 100-200 m; trawled; 1970s. Size: 94.4 mm. Grading: Fine++++/Gem. Provenance: JES Collection; London / Melbourne. |
