| Note | Outstanding pitch black example of this remarkable melantistic version of a common Pacific Ocean species. This large specimen demonstrates a lovely primary pigmented jet black dorsum with sparse lateral wall spotting, prominent aperture teeth with notable thick calloused rounded margins. The shell features excellent nacre gloss inclusive of blemishes with a perfect base and extremities. The shell has a remarkable size/weight ratio (76.2 grams). The specimen was captured off Nouméa, New Caledonia by Scuba diver at 2-3 meters on a coral reef circa early 70’s. EX: Luigi Raybaudi Massilia. The shell has multiple micro/mini/smaller subnacre blemishes on the dorsum and a major nacre window partially self-repaired by the gastropod on the posterior ramp as shown in right central image in the collage and also in the larger dorsal image. Grade: Fine. |
