| Item | # 0004272882 |
| Family | Cypraeidae |
| Name | Umbilia armeniaca westralica - PRECIOUS , Vercoi 1912 |
| Size | 82.8 mm |
| Locality | Eucla, Western Australia |
| Note | Precious example of Umbilia, with distinctive marigold /burnt orange dorsal botch, thick glossy nacre and perfect extremities that are highlighted by coral/tawny peach hues. The shell is moderately heavy for its size (70.0 grams ) and shows a subtle mantle line paired by rows smaller dots separating the columellar blotch from the labral blotch, a classic pattern advantage for collectors. The shell is wonderfully inflated, highly rostrated and exquisite example of this sub-variety. Trawled at 130-150 meters off the western Great Australian Bight, Eucla, Western Australia in the 90s. There is a heavily glossed shallow mild (not seen in images), negligible fold on the posterior ramp. Grade: F+++/GEM minus. |
