| Note | Gigantic specimen measuring a whopping 175.3mm, this is the largest specimen of this species I have handled. Beautiful, extremely long digits, from an old Australian collection, labeled as O. digitata before the species was named. Endemic to the Mascarene Basin off the Eastern African coast, O. itsumiae is one of the rarest strombus species. Impossible to acquire nowadays, only available from old collections due to the strict restrictions surrounding the collecting and exporting of shells out of Mauritius and Reunion. Great specimen with beautiful colours, fresh dead collected by local fishermen on coral reefs at 15-20m. Perfectly intact digits and thick mature lip, however being a fresh-dead collected shell, there in unfortunately a small sponge hole in the aperture of the shell. This is only noticeable upon closer inspection however, and in no way detracts from the shells presentation. Small growth scar on the earlier whorls of the shell ~ F++ |
