| Note | Very rare Hawaiian endemic, impossible to acquire now as is with much of the other Hawaiian endemics. Historically labeled as a form of the widespread C. undatus found throughout the Indo-Pacific, the name 'mauiensis' was actually used by local Hawaiian collectors and dealers long before the species was formally named in 2006. Majority of specimens are taken off the main island of Maui which the species is named after. Specimens are typically found in silty sand during the day at a depth of between 40-80ft. This species is extremely prone to the anterior canal being snapped off and regrown due to their habit of being partially buried, leaving their anterior canal exposed and consequently snapped off by predators. Good specimen, with intact anterior canal and free from any growth scars. Unfortunately the lip is a bit subadult and bears a chip ~ F++. |
