| Note | A superb extremely large specimen of the RAREST, and least known form of this endemic Queensland species, in which the typical spiral bands of darker colour are absent. Hypermature, with thickened apertural lip. Beautiful subtle colour. Supremely well-formed external surface pattern. A product of the legendary 1980s Queensland trawls – never collected since – and now obtainable only from choice old collections. RARE at this enormous size. Definitely for the Volutidae specialist whose collection yet lacks this almost never offered form. Data: Off Lady Musgrave Island, Great Barrier Reef, Queensland, Australia; upon sand substrate; 120-240 m; trawled; 1982. Size: 93.4 mm. Grading: Fine++ (typical restricted trawl fraying to anterior of apertural lip). Provenance: JES Collection; London / Melbourne. |
