| Note | This MAGNIFICENT extremely large specimen of an EXCEEDINGLY RARE and SPECTACULAR COLOUR FORM, from the ‘old days’ of deep diving, ranks amongst the most beautiful venusta I have ever encountered. Extremely large size. Honey-ivory dorsum, almost completely covered in large, free-form, cloud-like maculations of deep chestnut-tan. INCREDIBLE ‘frosted’ labral margin: ivory, with dusky cinnamon terminals, and a distinct bluish white register, surmounted by a broad linear element of burgundy-chestnut, formed by the coalescence of several maculae. Hypermature, with pronounced solidity and consequent weight. Data: Off Torbay, Great Southern region, Western Australia, Australia; upon granite reef substrate, upon cave wall, upon grey sponge; 28 m; dived; 1999. Size: 73.1 mm. Grading: Fine++++ (one tiny, negligible nacre mark to labral margin). Provenance: JES Collection; London / Melbourne. |
