| Note | For offer here is definitely one of the RAREST forms of Zoila. The mid-coast area of Western Australia is easily one of the least explored and toughest places to dive as there is vast stretches of rough, swell prone terrain with minimal habitat for Zoila to be found. Zoila in this region became almost extinct after the 2011 hot water event and has taken nearly 15 years for shells to return in small numbers. This specimen came from a recently acquired old collection and unfortunately this is the only way to obtain this rare from of Z.marginata. This shell exhibits a much higher dorsum than the K.bataviensis found ~200km North in the Kalbarri region, and a shape much more similar to Z.marginata found much further south; it truly is an IMTERMEDIATE FORM of Zoila! A lovely pale dorsum with PEPPER SPOTS and basal colouration that is a mixture of orange and brown. F++ with a soft line on the dorsum and some damage on the posterior canals. Taken by diver at ~25m depth in a small cave amongst sponges in medium-low profile reefs. North of Jurien Bay, W.A. From an Old Collection. |
