| Note | The "king of all turbans", Turbo lajonkairii is one of the most famous rarities amongst all of Turbinidae. Characterised by its two rows of long, branching spines with stunning hints of green and blue, its aesthetically pleasing design makes it one of the most beautiful in the family. Endemic to the remote Christmas & Cocos (Keeling) Island, collectively managed by the Australian Government as the 'Australian Indian Ocean Territories', it is also one of the most difficult to acquire due to the remote nature of its distribution and strict regulation by the Australian Government. A very rarely offered species, this is a scarce opportunity to acquire a specimen for your collection. Giant specimen at over 90mm, very clean with stunning dark blues/greens and dark brown streaks. Good spines, however there is some slight damage to one and minimal limpet scars, which is almost impossible to avoid in this species. Feel free to ask for additional images, F++/+++. Live collected amongst coral reefs at 3-4m, Flying Fish Cove, Christmas Island. |
