NoteA superb GIANT specimen, of exemplary quality for such size, and for this usually very rough, deep-water trawled species. Mature, thickened apertural lip. Well-formed pattern: white roughly triangular markings, and two broad spiral bands of deep purplish chocolate. A few extremely fine lines of substrate-influenced colour. A product of the legendary 1980s Queensland trawls – never collected since – and now obtainable only from choice old collections. RARE at this enormous size. Data: Off Lady Musgrave Island, Great Barrier Reef, Queensland, Australia; upon sand substrate; 120-240 m; trawled; 1982. Size: 97.6 mm. Grading: Fine++ (one typical small predatory mark to ventral region of spire, and minimal typical trawl fraying to siphonal canal). Provenance: JES Collection; London / Melbourne.
