| Note | A MAGNIFICENT ultra-large specimen. The species is uncommon on the Great Barrier Reef in general, and the specimen is from a very RARE LOCALITY: North Direction Island – a diminutive granite island of only 0.51 sq. km. Exceedingly few shells have ever been collected from this locality – no doubt a factor contributing to the advanced size of the current specimen – and the locality is now protected, with no fresh specimens being available in future. An incredibly beautiful admixture of blue, lavender, grey, caramel, chocolate, and white. Exceptional quality – PERFECTION. Markedly well-developed granular, file-like external surface sculpture. An exquisite jewel for the Costellariidae specialist interested in rare locality variants. Data: North Direction Island, Lizard, Queensland, Australia; upon coarse coral sand substrate, amongst reef; 4 m; dived; 1984. Size: 45.2 mm. Grading: Gem.
