| Family | Cypraeidae |
| Name | Cypraea subviridis - LOCALISED VARIANT , Reeve, 1835 |
| Size | 32.9 mm |
| Locality | Australia |
| Note | This EXCEPTIONAL specimen represents a further Queensland variant, (following the two deep-water varieties I have recently offered), further illustrating the remarkable variation within this endemic northern Australian species. The form appears to be a highly restricted geographical variant. Perhaps the most beautiful of all subviridis variants: dusky pale rose terminals and margins; greenish cream dorsum, mottled with deep caramel, and with nebulous background maculations of apricot. No longer freshly collected, and now obtainable only from a few choice Australian collections. A form undoubtedly lacking in many advanced Cypraeidae collections. Data: Off Urangan, Hervey Bay, Fraser Coast region, Queensland, Australia; upon reef substrate, at extreme seasonal low tide; 1979. Size: 32.9 mm. Grading: Gem. Provenance: JES Collection; London / Melbourne. |
