| Item | # 0004159272 | | Family | Muricidae | | Name | Chicoreus rubiginosus - GOLDEN FORM - THE BEST , Reeve, L.A., 1845 |
| Size | 79.1 mm, w/o |
| Locality | Australia |
| Note | The FINEST specimen of the rare ‘GOLDEN’ colour form of the JES Collection. Large size. Exceptional quality – PERFECTION – with all varical fronds intact, and preservation of the delicate, glassy, pink protoconch, usually lost to erosion – very important for the connoisseur. It is also of atypically elongate, graceful form. Completely devoid of erosion and encrustation, allowing full discernment of the delicate, bead-like surface sculpture. Rarely do I urge acquisition, but should an advanced Muricidae specialist desire a specimen of the ‘golden’ form at its highest expression, then THIS is the shell to purchase. Data: Off Broome, Kimberley Region, Western Australia, Australia; upon sand/mud substrate, amongst reef, at extreme seasonal low tide; 1984. Size: 79.1 mm. Grading: Gem. Provenance: JES Collection; London / Melbourne. |
