| Note | An OUTSTANDING very large specimen of this endemic Phillipine species, of RARE QUALITY, devoid of the heavy growth disruptions which detract from the majority of specimens. The periostracum pattern is also supremely well-formed. Somewhat available during the 1970s-1980s, but very difficult to obtain now at this level of size, quality, and beauty. NOTE: Most probably daphnis, although a host of closely related species exist, such as bicolorata, pithogaster, and lignaria, and I leave its ultimate taxonomic placement to an advanced landsnail specialist. Data: Santa Cruz region, Occidental Mindoro, Mindoro, Philippines; upon tree branch, in low-lying forest region; 1982. Size: 53.2 mm. Grading: Gem. Provenance: JES Collection; London / Melbourne. |
