| Family | Pectinidae |
| Name | Bractechlamys corallinoides - HYPOPIGMENTED ALBINOTIC , (A. d'Orbigny, 1840) |
| Size | 27.5 mm |
| Locality | Tenerife Island |
| Note | HYPOPIGMENTED / ALBINOTIC FORM. Specimen collected by a local diver from the famous wide mossy meadows of Punta de Teno, Tenerife, Canary Islands; 8 m; XI.2024. Collected as a fresh-dead shell in front of an occupied octopus cave. One valve entirely white, the other with only a very faint residual violet hue near the umbonal–basal sector, representing an extreme hypopigmented, partially albinotic phenotype. Interior of both valves entirely white. Among reviewed material from the archipelago, including live specimens, dead shells, and single-valve records, no comparable hypopigmented or albinistic specimen has ever been observed by our entire team. Only four specimens of this form are presently known worldwide. GEM condition, except for two minute marginal chips visible in photography, possibly caused by octopus predation. Ligament not preserved; specimen was treated at some point with paraffin mineral oil. Rare opportunity to acquire the rarest known colour form within this already extremely rare species. |
