| Family | Conidae |
| Name | Conus circumcisus brazieri - LAVENDER - SPIRAL CORDS , Sowerby III, 1881 |
| Size | 56.8 mm |
| Locality | Philippines |
| Note | An EXQUISITE large specimen of the uncommon ‘CORDED’ form, made all the more uncommon by virtue of its being of a beautiful DEEP LAVENDER COLOUR FORM. External surface sculpture of raised spiral bands, decorated with innumerable diminutive nodes. A SPECIAL brazieri for the Conidae connoisseur. NOTE: Sowerby III described brazieri as a full species, but the type specimen, which I have examined, now in the Melvill-Tomlin collection in Wales, is clearly circumcisus, albeit an unusually patterned specimen. Data: Bohol Sea, off Punta Engaño, Mactan, Cebu, Central Visayas, Philippines; upon sand/rubble substrate; 10-20 m; dived; 2006. Size: 56.8 mm. Grading: Fine+++ (minor smoothing to apertural lip). Provenance: JES Collection; London / Melbourne. |
