| Family | Conidae |
| Name | Conus ammiralis temnes - UNIQUE - LAMBERTI-LIKE , Iredale, 1930 |
| Size | 51.6 mm |
| Locality | Australia |
| Note | This rare and potentially UNIQUE specimen of this endemic Coral Sea subspecies, collected over forty years ago, bears a remarkable resemblance to the legendary rarity Conus lamberti, also from the Coral Sea, and begs the question as to whether there is any affinity between the two species. Very lamberti-like colour and pattern: large, pure white, roughly triangular markings, across a vibrant caramel-ochre ground. A highly interesting specimen for an advanced Conidae specialist. Data: Diamond Reef, Australian Coral Sea Isands Territory, Australia; upon sand substrate; 10-20 m; dived; 1979. Size: 51.6 mm. Grading: Fine++ (one restricted line to ventrum). Provenance: JES Collection, London / Melbourne. |
