NoteAn EXCEPTIONAL ULTRA-LARGE specimen of this singular extreme deep-water species, of VERY RARE QUALITY for the species, habitat, and collection method, incorporating completely NATURAL apertural lip, and retention of the delicate, bulbous protoconch. RARE SIZE. Fully cleaned to reveal the pure and beautiful nature of the colour: white-cream, with markings of rich ochre – a colour combination of particular beauty. Specimens of such size and quality are highly prized, and are now obtainable almost exclusively from choice old collections. Data: Off Muroran, Iburi subprefecture, Hokkaido prefecture, Japan; upon sand/mud/detritus substrate; 350-450 m; whelk pot; 2004. Size: 107.6 mm. Grading: Gem; w/o. Provenance: JES Collection; London / Melbourne.
