| Item | # 0004089875 | | Family | Cypraeidae | | Name | Cypraea schilderorum - ULTRA-DARK / TAHITIAN , Iredale, 1939 |
| Size | 27.9 mm |
| Locality | Society Islands |
| Note | This MAGNIFICENT very recently collected TAHITIAN specimen, from a deep-water dive, exhibits the DARKEST colour I have ever encountered in the species – alternating spiral bands of ultra-rich ochre-cocoa, and deep grey-green, with an overall tinge of deep pink. PERFECTION. Hypermature, with pronounced marginal and ventral callosity. A VERY RARE schilderorum for the highly advanced Cypraeidae specialist to research – perhaps worthy of a form, or even subspecific name. Data: Tuatira Bay, off Tuatira Point, Tai,arapu-Est, Tahiti, Windward Islands, Society Islands; upon coral sand/rubble substrate, under dead coral fragment, upon outer slope of fringing reef; 48 m; dived; 2025. Size: 27.9 mm. Grading: Gem. Provenance: JES Collection; London / Melbourne. |
