Note

A truly gigantic species for its genus, only recently described by Roosen M.T., Hortúa Herrera J. & Dorado C. (2025). The name “Goliath” fittingly alludes to its extraordinary dimensions, comparable to the legendary giant of Greek mythology—an imposing and unforgettable presence within its taxonomic group. The protoconch and early whorls exhibit a warm yellow hue that gradually transitions into a beautiful salmon coloration toward the body whorl, producing an elegant and highly aesthetic chromatic gradient. The shell is distinctly pyramidal and deeply depressed in profile, giving it a bold architectural form. The aperture is triangular and lacks an operculum, while delicate oblique whitish streaks accent the whorls. In this particular specimen, the parallel grooves running across the entire surface are especially pronounced, creating remarkable texture and visual depth. Natural repair marks are present on the whorl—authentic evidence of survival in its native habitat—which do not detract in any way from its structural integrity or display impact. The umbilicus is sealed by a well-defined umbilical callus, and there is a slight lip imperfection, minor and honest. Collected very fresh in Andean humid forest at 1,680 meters above sea level in August 2025, this specimen originates from a biodiverse yet increasingly threatened ecosystem, making comparable material progressively scarcer. As a recently described giant species, examples of this caliber are seldom encountered on the international auction scene.
