| Note | An exceptionally rare subantarctic deep-water Volute, distributed from southern Uruguay to Argentina and the Falkland Islands (Islas Malvinas), with this specimen originating from the latter locality — a provenance of particular significance and desirability among specialists in South Atlantic Volutidae.
This carnivorous species inhabits sandy and muddy substrates at depths ranging from 100 to 700 meters, making representative material inherently scarce due to the demanding nature of deep-sea collection. The shell exhibits a pale white ground color, covered by an extremely fine, light yellowish-brown periostracum — a delicate organic layer that is rarely preserved and considerably enhances the specimen’s appeal when present.
The surface sculpture is composed of fine, parallel horizontal striae with a subtly roughened texture, imparting a refined yet characteristic appearance to the teleoconch. The protoconch often shows a glazed layer, a noteworthy morphological feature valued in advanced systematic collections. The outer lip presents slight wear, carefully noted for accuracy, without detracting from the overall integrity and display quality of the specimen.
Collected by trawling over sandy-muddy bottom at a depth of 150 meters and originating from an old collection, this piece carries both historical provenance and increasing rarity in the context of modern restrictions on deep-water sampling.
