| Note | A MAGNIFICENT ULTRA-LARGE specimen of the MARQUESAN form – the most beautiful incarnation of the species. Spectacular colours: an indescribable admixture of brick red, deep rose-pink, and lavender, flecked with white, blue, and yellow. Pin-point protoconch intact. Solid and heavy for size. A highly elusive species in the Marquesas, with only a few specimens being found each year, and becoming increasingly difficult to obtain. A much coveted ‘collector’s item’ for the Conidae specialist, or admirer of truly exquisite seashells. Data: Off Matautu, Hiva Oa, Marquesas Islands; upon reef substrate; 20-22 m; dived; 2024. Size: 48.8 mm. Grading: Fine++++ (ultra-restricted natural fraying to anterior of apertural lip); w/o. Provenance: JES Collection; London / Melbourne. |
