| Item | # 0004048521 | | Family | Muricidae | | Name | Ceratostoma foliatum - OLD BOY , Gmelin 1791 |
| Size | 89.9 mm, w/o |
| Locality | Monterey, California |
| Note | Graceful, heavy and elegant albino example of the species. This large sized specimen exhibits exceptional expanded varices with fluting and wonderful pigmentation. The China/off white varices complement the body whorl axial cording and that blend seamlessly together. This beautiful shell shows superb form for an "old boy" and is a highly collectable California shell. Captured at the base/periphery of a kelp forest by Scuba diver at 18-20 meters off the central California, south of Monterey in the late 2016. The aperture lip, siphonal canal, spire and body whorl are intact. There is attrition of the varices edges, erosion of the protoconch and fine pitting of the older trailing varices. Grade: F++. |
