Umbilia armeniaca clarksoni - Super Rare Form !!! , Lorenz & Beals, 2013
Size
91.4 mm
Locality
Esperance, WA
Note
Over the past eight years we have relocated our ROV
operation to Esperance and worked in the area between
Hopetoun and Israelite Bay on a number of occasions. One of the reasons for this is that we wished to find
clarksoni. Despite considerable effort we have had very limited success. This is one of very few clarksoni we found in years of searching. It was collected from 75
metres of water off Cape Legrande during May 2021. It has been hiding in our collection until our recent decision to part with it. It is a crabbed dead collected
specimen that has several small perforations in it's base and a couple in the dorsum which can be seen under
magnification. The shell has nacre loss but presents very well in hand for a dead collected shell with perfect siphons. Super Rare and a MUST for the Umbilia
collector!
