| Item | # 0004022551 |
| Family | Muricidae |
| Name | Ceratostoma nuttalli - FORMER WRS , Conrad 1837 |
| Size | 61.5 mm, w/o |
| Locality | Stearns Wharf, Santa Barbara |
| Note | The specimen features a fusoid body whorl with exceptionally large varices for this species. More importantly, the chestnut-brown/brown body whorl pigmentation on this particular specimen is above normal and a highly coveted characteristic. The shell displays a worn protoconch and minor wear on the varice edges. The specimen also exhibits a perfect siphonal canal, spire and body whorl with remarkable nodules and channels/gutters on the dorsal leading varix. The rock shell was collected by Scuba diver off Stearns Wharf, Santa Barbara on pier pilings in bottom rubble in 1970. The shell shows erosion of the protoconch and varix edges. This is a real good one and the former WRS. Grade: F+++. |
