| Note | Graceful, heavy and elegant example of the species. This moderately sized specimen exhibits exceptional expanded varices with modest fluting and wonderful pigmentation. The beige/tan white varices complement the mellow brown/light chestnut brown body whorl and blend seamlessly together. This beautiful shell shows superb form and is a highly collectable California shell. Captured at the base/periphery of a kelp forest by Scuba diver at 18-20 meters off the west end of San Nicolas Island, California in the late 90s. The apeture lip, siphonal canal, spire and body whorl are intact. There is random attrition of the varices edges and erosion of the protoconch. Exceptional condition considering it's size and weight (30.0 grams). Grade: F++/F+++. |
