| Note | All advanced Cypraeidae specialists are aware of the fact that there are porteri … and then there are porteri. Beyond the requisites of size, colour, and quality, the defining element of a truly EXCEPTIONAL specimen is PATTERN. The species does not readily form a clear pattern, let alone one of density, with a multiplicity of well-formed, circular maculae, in a variety of sizes, with a proliferation of LARGE maculae, which make a STANDOUT porteri so SPECIAL. This MAGNIFICENT ultra-large specimen – just touching 50 mm – exhibits such a pattern, at the highest expression for the species, presented in rich, now fully stable colour. Exquisite ovate rhomboidal proportions. Hypermature: solid and heavy, with pronounced marginal callosity, and periphery. Supremely difficult to obtain now like this. A RARE porteri for the connoisseur. Data: Off Langab, Balut, Sarangani Islands, Mindanao, Philippines; upon sand/coral rubble substrate; 80-120 m; tangle netted; 2004. Size: 49.4 mm. Grading: Gem.
