| Item | # 0004007298 |
| Family | Ranellidae |
| Name | Charonia lampas - SPECIAL COLOR , Linnaeus, 1758 |
| Size | 226 mm |
| Locality | Senegal |
| Note | A CLASSIC, SELDOM SEEN NICELY AND BEAUTIFULLY PATTERNED LAMPAS. Here we have a much better quality, "outstanding" is the word. The locality is interesting, as C. lampas is usually coming from the western Mediterranean, where the species is more common than elsewhere. It is also occasionally seen on dives in the Canaries. The present shell is from Senegal: muchmore southern than usual. The colors are unusually intense and dark, much more pronounced when compared to the majority of Alboran pieces. This is with very dark chocolate flames around the white snow flakes. The quality is fine++ as there are micro holes in the top of the spire, not harming, and the proto is as usual eroded in this size. I have never seen otherwise than that.
Senegal. Offshore M'Bourg. From fishermen. 2016.
