| Family | Cassidae |
| Name | Cassis exigua - BIG; RARE QUALITY , Tenison-Woods, J.E., 1879 |
| Size | 47.6 mm |
| Locality | Australia |
| Note | An OUTSTANDING very large specimen of this delicate, endemic, deep-water, north-eastern Australian species. Exemplary quality, with particularly well-preserved ultra-delicate siphonal canal, usually damaged during the trawling process. Typical minor loss to ultra-delicate columellar shield. A product of the legendary 1980s Queensland trawls, and not collected since. Now obtainable only from choice old collections, and almost never of this size and quality. Definitely for the Cassidae specialist requiring a first-rate example of this elusive deep-water species. Data: Off Cape Moreton, Queensland, Australia; upon sand substrate; 120-220 m; trawled; 1982. Size: 47.6 mm. Grading: Gem. Provenance: JES Collection; London / Melbourne. |
