| Item | # 0003995755 | | Family | Turbinidae | | Name | Prisogaster elevatus - Rare, Giant WRS? , (Souleyet, 1852) |
| Size | 18 mm, w/o |
| Locality | Caldera, northern Chile |
| Note | This is a giant (WRS?) and very nice specimen of the rare Prisogaster elevatus. Genus Prisogaster, a genus endemic to the SE of America, has only two extant species: P. niger and P. elevatus. Prisogaster elevatus is much smaller and much rarer than P. niger, and it is indeed rare in its habitat. This specimen was collected alive and its soft parts are dry inside the shell, which preserves its original calcareous operculum. This is the largest and nicest specimen which I have obtained (its emerald green lip is very nice in natural light), and I am offering it with a low initial price for this rare Turbinidae species. |
