| Name | Ceratostoma foliatum , Gmelin 1791 |
| Size | 72.4 mm, w/o |
| Locality | Channel Islands, California |
| Note | Lovely albinistic specimen with broad flutted wings, moderate weight and exceptional appearance. Fair condition for a murex shell from this location off the California west coast. The shell exhibits sculptured varices showing astounding incurved fluting of the varix edges, especially the leading varix. The fluting of the varices strongly accentuate the beauty of this specimen. The shell has an intact spire, perfect anterior siphonal canal and aperture lip. Collected by Scuba diver at 7-10 meters on top of large rocks in between kelp forests off the Channel Islands, California in 2020.. The specimen does exhibit a subtle eroded protoconch and notable advanced pitting of ventral and lateral columellar body whorl, including the trailing varix as seen in images. Grade: Fine/Fine+. |
