| Note | Tawera elliptica (ex Tawera gayi) is a small venerid clam found in southern Chile. This species is surprisingly hard to obtain and the specimens presented in this auction were obtained from fishermen working off Chiloé, in southern Chile. The genus Tawera has a distribution in the southern hemisphere, from New Zealand to South Africa , Tristan da Cunha and Chile. A very low initial price for an interesting bivalve from the southern Ocean in excellent condition and a giant size for the species. |
