| Note | Another shell from my last trip to the Marquesas this past spring. This is a handsome specimen of maculifera martybealsi. Very heavy for the size, hyperglossy, regular dorsal netting, straight mantle line, large dark basal blotch. The posterior extremity is very thick, almost calloused. In my experience maculifera is common in the north islands of the Marquesas but most specimens are either flawed due to the mostly wavy environment, or with somehow blurred pattern. I collected this shell in 3 mt within a wall cave off Tikapo, west of Taiohae, Nuku Hiva, Marquesas. A little jewel. |
