| Note | One nice live-taken specimen of Fissurella maxima, the largest species of Fissurellidae. This species lives on rocks, usually near and under forests of giant Lessonia algae. Large Fissurella species in Chile are caught by fishermen, collected with hooks and almost always damaged. The dorsum of the shell is always covered by calcareous algae, vermetids, boring polychaetes and other epibionts, particularly Scurria species. This specimen was collected recently by fishermen, and it is in good condition for the species, with a nice natural dorsum (lightly cleaned) covered with calcareous algae, which can be cleaned further. The margins are in very good condition, with some minuscule nicks. A very low initial price for an interesting species. |
