| Note | Striking super heavy, max-glossy, super-humped and mature strongly pigmented example of an Hawaiian "big humpy"mauritiana. You may have a few mauritianas in your collection, but probably not as large and nice as this one. Difficult to find them in this condition, considering their ecosystem in the big surf crash/intertidal zone. Super black lateral walls, wrapping onto a fully black base with a gray/blue primary dorsal pigmentation and awesome dorsal patterning complemented by two narrow gold bands. Perfect exterior flawless/caramel brown siphons and channels. The dorsum is approaching jet black with perfect dorsal spotting seen under the thick nacre. The humpy has a remarkable size/weight ratio, heavy as red house brick (202.9 grams). A champion shell in any collection. One shallow subnacre growth fold on the labral dorsum and small nacre delamination columellar base. Taken with Scuba off North Shore, Oahu, Hawaii in11/2011. Located at 2-3 meters under ledge on a night dive. Grade: F+++. |
