| Item | # 0003916649 |
| Family | Mytilidae |
| Name | Leiosolenus peruvianus - Rare, Large , (A. d'Orbigny, 1846) |
| Size | 82.7 mm |
| Locality | Caldera, northern Chile |
| Note | One very nice and large specimen of the boring mytilid Leiosolenus peruvianus. This species is seldom found, as it only lives inside soft rocks. This specimen is in very good condition, with both valves with no damages and retaining part of its periostracum. It was extracted from inside a rock at low tide and it is the largest specimen which I have found. A low initial price for an interesting bivalve which is hard to obtain. |
