| Note | One very nice specimen of the very rare Fissurella bridgesi, one of the large species of Fissurella endemic to the southeastern Pacific. This species lives in the subtidal in very specific places, and it is found in very low numbers. This is, together with F. pulchra, the rarest Fissurella species found in Chile and Perú. Large Fissurella species are edible (and very tasty), and so are caught by fishermen, collected with hooks and often damaged. This particular specimen has a nice thick shell, with a very nice cleaned and lightly oiled (mineral oil) dorsum, with no scurria scars and a few small flaws as can be seen in the images. This particular species is very rare but I have been able to obtain several specimens recently and I have cleaned a few and some I have lightly oiled to reveal the very nice color of the dorsum (which has a radial pattern in juvenile specimens). This is an opportunity to obtain a rare and nice specimen from a difficult-to-get species for a very low initial price. |
