Item | # 0003832853 |
Family | Cypraeidae |
Name | Zoila ketyana hypermarginata - THE SHAPE , Raybaudi 1993 |
Size | 52.4 mm |
Locality | Bernier Island, Carnarvon, WA |
Note | Impressively wide/calloused specimen with an exceptional and striking pattern/rich colored base with a thick sparkling/glistening nacre. The shell demonstrates a high weight/size ratio (23.6 grams), significant corrugation of the thick, super-flared/calloused margins and profound rounded convexity of the base. The dorsum is devoid of spotting and the shell exudes color with a stunning expresso brown maculae/botched base graced by honey orange/beige overtones. The shape alone is a remarkable and collectable feature. . This is an awesome specimen harvested by acclaimed Scuba diver Andrew Edinger while feeding on a Geodia sponge at 43 meters on a low limestone reef off Bernier Island, Carnarvon, Western Australia in 7/2006. The specimen displays two insignificant/subltle shallow and hard to visualize without direct lighting short creases on the dorsum. Grade: GEM minus. |
