Tenorioconus aurantius - ORANGE , Hwass in Bruguière, 1792
Size
43.1 mm
Locality
Curacao
Note
F+++. A fantastic species from the C. cedonulli-group. Conus aurantius is only known from the ABC Islands, it’s closest relative and sister species is C. curasseviensis from Margarita, Venezuela. C. aurantius comes in three colours: brown, orange and black and it’s average size is 30 to 35 mm. Almost all shells known have been collected long ago. A nice orange example with periostracum. Very rare nowadays.
ABC Islands, Curacao. Harbour Kralendijk. 1965.
