Virroconus coronatus - SPECIAL COLOR , Gmelin, 1791
Size
19.4 mm
Locality
Philippines
Note
GEM. Exceptional. A small but amazingly beautiful Conus coronatus, one out of thousands. This species, often confused with the C. aristophanes has seldom white flecks as the shell shown here. In the literature we found among more than 50 figures only one piece that gets a little close to the present jewel: the one figured by Walls (1978) in his fantastic welcome book at that time. Very exceptional.
Philippines. Olango Island. 10-20 m. 2011.
