| Note | An OUTSTANDING, ultra-large specimen of this deep-water, endemic Queensland species. As the Conidae specialist will know, this large, deep-water species, with a relatively thin shell wall, is susceptible to growth damage/lines, in addition to damage during the trawling process. The current specimen is an exceedingly rare exception. Even the dedicated Conidae specialist will be surprised at the exceptional level of quality of this specimen. Beautiful colour – rich straw-yellow. Exemplary preservation of completely natural apertural lip, with no artificial smoothing – very important for the connoisseur. Rare retention of apex. A product of the legendary 1980s Queensland trawls, and never freshly available since. Now obtainable only from old collections. An exceedingly rare opportunity for an advanced Conidae specialist to acquire a BEST of the best example, illustrating the species in its finest expression. Data: Capricorn Channel, East of Lady Musgrave Island, Queensland, Australia; upon sand substrate; 180-200 m; trawled; 1980. Size: 97.1 mm. Grading: Gem.
