Name | Volutoconus grossi - EXCEPTIONAL , Iredale, 1927 |
Size | 95.4 mm |
Locality | Australia |
Note | As the Volutidae specialist will know, V. grossi is a species which is extremely difficult to obtain in Gem, or even near Gem condition. Almost all known specimens exhibit growth damage, and, should they manage to escape injury during life, typically suffer damage during the trawling process. The current specimen is an extremely rare exception to this rule. Beautiful, ultra-rich red-earth colours. Natural apertural lip, with no artifical smoothing. PERFECT ultra-delicate siphonal canal. The BEST of the best for this beautiful deep-water, endemic Queensland species. Data: Off Cape Moreton, Queensland, Australia; upon sand substrate; 80-120 m; trawled; 1983. Size: 95.4 mm. Grading: Fine+++. Provenance: JES Collection; London / Melbourne. |
