| Note | One of the FINEST and most spectacular GIANT specimens of the JES Collection. Rare quality for such enormous size. Beautiful, well-formed pattern. Hypermature, with markedly thickened, glossed, ‘rolled’ apertural lip. PERFECT, markedly upturned siphonal canal. For many decades now only obtainable from old collections, and almost never at this size and quality. Definitely for the Volutidae specialist, or connoisseur of giant-sized seashells. Data: Arafura Sea, off northern coast of Australia; upon sand substrate; 80-120 m; trawled; 1990. Size: 149.1 mm. Grading: Fine+++. Provenance: JES Collection; London / Melbourne. |
