| Note | This was caught by a Colombian shrimp boat off San Andreas at a depth of 80 m. This area is only economically part of Colombia, geographically it is as close as possible to Nicaragua. This area of the Carribean is know for its many underwater banks which areideal isolates for speciation. The fisherman from whom I got this specimen had two similar shells, unfortunately the second specimen had a hole in the body. This specimen is also dead taken (the lip is slightly trimed). But at the same time it is very shiny without erosions. The most probable ID variant is Voluta virescens, but there are many morphological differences - unusual development of horns, completely smooth surface, absence of spots on the lip, etc. For specialists |
