Note | Gagatis is a new form of rosselli described by Felix Lorenz and Marco Chiapponni. The description was published late in 2024 in Molluscan Science Volume 6.
In the area west of the Southern Zuytdorp Cliffs and to the east of Big Bank is a populated by dwarf rosselli and ketyana. This is northwest of Kalbarri. This form of rosselli we find in the same area as we collect praeclara off the southern Zuytdorp Cliffs.
They are consistently very small with narrow dorsal windows. This specimen is large for this form. This jet black shell has perfect siphons and has the classic small narrow mantle slot. Graded Gem- as a 1mm long nacre window can be seen in reflected light at the location indicated by the green arrow.
This specimen was collected from purple globe sponge in 77 meters of water west north west of Kalbarri during April 2024. |
