F+++. MULTIPLE SPINES ALL OVER. After some years, one gains a dream of how the perfect Spondylus looks like. And looking at many in the literature, one remembers the best figures. The Spondylus variegatus in the literature are a poor bunch of pieces: it looks like they went through a war. But we have to think that virtually all of them were collected in pre-diving times. Cleaning this species is still a challenge and takes easily half an hour per piece. Here an exquisite variegatus from Cabulan, with multiple spines all over the valve. And this is by far the best of the variegatus in the classic literature. This is exquisite and seldom seen.
