| Note | WONDERFUL FAKE. This colossus almost makes your eyes pop out. At first glance, it reminds us of the forgeries made more than a century ago of some land snails from the Philippines. In the 1987 book on land snails by Parkinson, Hemmen & Groh, you can see two fantastic forgeries of Cochlostyla on plate 48. The authors were apparently unaware of these forgeries at the time of their book. The same technique was definitely used here, in which certain areas of the shells were heated with a hot iron, creating a square pattern. A dream shell for the collector of forgeries.
